The most important aim of this study lay in filling in the great gap in our knowledge of the processes of germination in the Ceratium cyst and the early developmental stages in the standing stock of Ceratium hirundinella. contained rich cysts, we now succeeded extraordinarily well in pursuing the consistent development of Ceratium from the cyst to the completed cell. A series of experiments were carried out on the cysts and the juvenile stages of Ceratium, which showed very interesting results. The author presents in a general descriptive part the normal processes of germination in Ceratium cysts and the development of the juvenile stages in order to show in an experimental part the changes in form of C. hirundinella under the influence of temperature, light and varying salinities

Thermal Geo-axions

We estimate the production rate of axion-type particles in the core of the Earth, at a temperature T~5000K. We constrain thermal geo-axion emission by demanding a core-cooling rate less than 100K/Gyr, as suggested by geophysics. This yields a "quasi-vacuum" (unaffected by extreme stellar conditions) bound on the axion-electron fine structure constant \alpha_a^{QV} < 10^{-18}, stronger than the existing accelerator (vacuum) bound by 4 orders of magnitude. We consider the prospects for measuring the geo-axion flux through conversion into photons in a geoscope; such measurements can further constrain \alpha_a^{QV}.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

Baryogenesis at the Electroweak Phase Transition for a SUSY Model with a Gauge Singlet

SUSY models with a gauge singlet easily allow for a strongly first order electroweak phase transition (EWPT). We discuss the wall profile, in particular transitional CP violation during the EWPT. A pump- and probe-beam technique is used for measuring time-resolved and cw-pumped excited-state absorption (ESA) and stimulated-emission (SE) spectra of Er3+:YAlO3 with high resolution. In combination with absorption and fluorescence spectra, detailed information on the wavelengths and cross-sections of ESA and SE at the 550 nm laser transition is provided
